SAP Data Integration with Microsoft SQL Server
The Microsoft SQL Server database management system organizes data by storing it in various tables and linking them through relationships. This enables efficient data retrieval and analysis. Xtract Universal allows SAP data to be automatically written to MS SQL Server—triggered by scheduled tasks, scripts, or other triggers. This provides access to SAP data for analysis, reporting, or process automation—without any programming effort.

Making SAP Data Available in SQL Server
Microsoft SQL Server is a mature all-in-one solution for professional data management and business intelligence. Thanks to its optimized architecture, intelligent query processing, efficient indexing, and advanced performance optimization features, it ensures fast and reliable data provisioning. Additionally, SQL Server offers powerful tools for data analysis.
However, integrating SAP data comes with several challenges. The proprietary nature of SAP architecture, complex table structures, and specific communication protocols require specialized tools to ensure correct data extraction and provisioning within SQL Server.

Frequently Asked Questions About SAP Integration with Microsoft SQL Server
Xtract Universal retrieves SAP data via the standardized SAP interfaces RFC or OData and writes it to Microsoft SQL Server or Azure SQL Database using the SQL Server target adapter. The software supports both full and incremental data extractions. Windows authentication (Integrated Security) and SQL Server authentication are available for connecting to Microsoft SQL Server. Optionally, the connection can be encrypted using TLS. Direct access to the SAP database is not required.
Xtract Universal extracts numerous SAP objects and makes them available in Microsoft SQL Server. These include, among others, tables, Table CDC, DeltaQ extractors, CDS views, OData services, reports, and BW objects such as BW cubes, BW queries, and hierarchies. A complete overview of all supported SAP objects can be found in our HelpCenter.
Xtract Universal does not have its own scheduler and does not offer continuous real-time synchronization. Instead, data extractions can be automated using external schedulers or orchestration tools such as the Windows Task Scheduler or SQL Server Agent. In combination with incremental extraction methods, SAP data can be updated at short, freely definable intervals.
Yes. Xtract Universal supports various methods for incremental data extraction, including Table CDC and DeltaQ. This ensures that only new or modified records are transferred, rather than reloading the entire dataset with each run. This reduces the load on the SAP system and shortens data transfer times.
No. Xtract Universal does not access the SAP database directly. Instead, access is provided through the standardized SAP interfaces RFC or OData. Proprietary ABAP code ensures high-performance and reliable data extraction without directly accessing the underlying database.
For communication with SAP, Xtract Universal supports Secure Network Communication (SNC) and Single Sign-On (SSO). For connecting to Microsoft SQL Server, TLS is available for encrypted data transmission, as well as Windows authentication and SQL Server authentication. For more information on the supported security mechanisms, please visit our HelpCenter.
No. Xtract Universal uses the standardized SAP interfaces and does not require direct access to the SAP database. For certain extraction types, only transportable ABAP code that supports data extraction is installed in the SAP system.
Yes. Xtract Universal supports the parallel transfer of SAP data to various target systems. For example, you can use Microsoft SQL Server for reporting and analysis while simultaneously connecting to other target systems such as data lakes, cloud data warehouses, or other databases. The available target systems depend on your licensed configuration.
